Why does astrology work?
An honest answer to astrology's largest unresolved question.

Dear Reader,
Have you ever read a horoscope and thought, “That describes what I'm going through”? It's natural to wonder why it seems to fit. Did the writer predict something, or did the reading help you put an existing concern into words?

Those are different kinds of usefulness. A reading can help you think without proving that it predicted an event. We don't have an established scientific explanation for the astrological influence I imagine.
Calculation is not the same as validation
We can check where a planet was on a particular day. To find out whether that position helps predict a human experience, we'd need another kind of check. We'd have to write down a clear prediction before the event, then record both the times it matched and the times it didn't.
Think of a reading that says an important conversation is coming. If you have one, the reading may stay in your memory. If you don't, you may forget it. That possibility deserves a place in the explanation alongside any pattern we hope to find.
My working hypothesis
I suspect there may be relationships among celestial conditions, living beings, and events that traditional astrology has tried to describe without having the tools to measure them. I imagine a field of energies shaped through many interacting factors. The zodiac works like a twelve-polarity map, while planets behave like lenses that modify the field.
This is a model in my mind. It is not an established law of physics.
Why continue asking?
I want to find out whether parts of this idea can be tested. That means choosing one clear question at a time and being willing to change my explanation if the results disagree.
For your own reading, start with a smaller question: did it help you understand what needed attention? You can find that useful and still ask for evidence before accepting a prediction. I want Horoscope Hermit to leave room for both responses.
