What do astrologers mean when they talk about energy?
What I mean by astrological energy, and how to relate that word to everyday life.

Dear Reader,
When someone speaks of astrological energy, what do they mean?
“The energy feels difficult today.” It is a familiar astrological sentence, but the word *energy* can hide several different ideas.

In physics, energy has precise measurable meanings. It can be expressed in units, included in equations, and tested through observation. An astrologer usually is not claiming to have measured that kind of energy when describing a tense week.
Four meanings that are often mixed together
Sometimes energy means mood: people seem restless, hopeful, or tired. Sometimes it means circumstances: deadlines gather, conversations become urgent, or several changes arrive together. Sometimes it means symbolism: Mars is interpreted through action and conflict, while Saturn is associated with limits and responsibility.
The fourth possibility is a spiritual hypothesis—that there are forms of relationship or influence we do not yet understand or measure. This is where my own thinking begins, but it remains a hypothesis.
My use of the word
In a horoscope, I use energy to describe the conditions I think a period may bring. If I write that communication needs care, I mean you might benefit from slowing down, asking a question, or checking that a message says what you intended. You shouldn't have to guess what the word asks you to do.
I also imagine human beings and the sky as participating in a more complex field of relationships. The twelve-sided magnet and planetary-lens images help me think about that possibility. They are models for reflection, not measured forces.
Say what we actually mean
If a reading simply says “the energy is difficult,” look for an explanation. Difficult in what way? What needs attention? For example, “Check the dates before you book” gives you something you can use. A vague warning leaves you wondering what to fear.
My spiritual ideas about energy go further than that everyday use of the word. I'll explain them as beliefs and questions I want to explore. We don't yet have measurements that establish the influence I imagine.
